The Group Mentorship model was adapted to accommodate the numerous mentees within our mentorship program.
Group Mentorship Model
Based on the Group Mentorship Model, mentees are placed in a mentorship group that consists of 1 mentor and multiple mentees. Each group consists of undergraduate students from the same years (i.e., juniors in years 1-2 and seniors in years 3-4+). By including mentees from the same year, students benefit from meeting others in their year and sharing resources. We strongly recommend using an online platform to schedule meetings, talk amongst your mentorship group and ask questions (i.e., Facebook, Slack).
Meeting Schedule
A group’s meeting schedule is composed of both mentor meetings and peer meetings. Mentorship activities may take place online or in-person as preferred by the mentorship group. All COVID-19 public health guidelines should be respected.
Mentor meetingsMentorship groups will discuss relevant tips and advice. For example, a mentor may share how to apply to psychology research labs at Concordia (or other Montreal-based universities). A suggested list of topics is distributed at the beginning of each year and mentorship groups can adapt their monthly topics as needed. Individual meetings with mentors can be scheduled on an as-needed basis. |
Peer meetingsMentees may discuss undergraduate-specific questions as needed, such as advice for different classes or professors that senior students may have experience with. They may also discuss ongoing applications - for example, they can peer review cover letters and CVs for applications to your chosen research lab. |
In other words, mentees discuss questions with and without their graduate mentor! The frequency and topics of the meetings is up to each group to decide. A group may decide to only set mentor meetings once a month and set peer meetings on an “as needed” basis.
